About Chaz Dean
Celebrity hairstylist Chaz Dean has transformed the beauty industry with his wildly successful WEN® products. The line has replaced detergents and sulfates in soap and shampoo with nourishing botanical ingredients that work wonders on even the most dry, damaged and frizzy hair.
Chaz began working on formulations for WEN® in 1993 and tested the products for five years before it's official debut. Clients like Jennie Garth were some of the first to try Chaz’s natural shampoo when he had a namesake salon in Bel-Air.
“Shampoos often contain ingredients like detergents, sulfates and surfactants that can strip your hair and scalp of natural oils,” Chaz explains. “This is why so many women struggle with premature stripping of colour, frizziness, dullness, dryness.”
Chaz Dean Studio
His Studio, a Zen-like refuge tucked away in a charming bungalow, is surrounded by bamboo and filled with the scent of eucalyptus and lavender. “I wanted to offer a secluded, intimate environment that would be a safe-haven for my clients,” Chaz explains of the hair salon and neighbouring Chaz Dean Lifestyle boutique.
Dedicated to “changing the world one head at a time,” at his studio you’ll find ivy-covered walls, lush foliage, trickling fountains, calming sitting areas and hanging lanterns. The salon’s services include hair colour and cuts, conditioning treatments and makeup application or lessons. “I want to ultimately re-educate everyone on how they can best cleanse and nourish the scalp and hair,” Chaz says.
Born in Vermont and adopted at birth, Chaz was raised in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, California and Arizona before moving to Los Angeles in 1985. A renowned photographer who once trimmed the hair of dolls, siblings and friends, Chaz decided to enrol in cosmetology school to further expand his creative abilities. After working at a top salon he struck out on his own and has since forged a path that has made him an international superstar.
When he’s not focusing on developing new groundbreaking products and his personal clients at Chaz Dean Studio in Hollywood, you’ll find the Los Angeles resident cooking, doing yoga, hiking with his dogs and meditating.
